Every month we recognize a ministry of the congregation. This month: the Property Committee.
St. Francis is blessed with gifted and visionary leaders who give generously of their time and talents as they carry out various ministries in our congregation. Each month we recognize one of these ministries. In July we are lifting up the members of the Property Committee.
The St. Francis Lutheran Church Property Committee is a constitutionally-mandated committee appointed by the Council President with the advice and consent of the Congregational Council for the stewardship of the property of the congregation.
The Property Committee manages the property of the Church itself, as well as the commercial and residential rental properties at 132-142 Church Street and at 50 and 50A Belcher Street. The Property Committee oversees physical maintenance and repair of the properties, and negotiates and monitors rents, lease agreements and accessory use agreements. The Property Committee provides ongoing custodial and yard care as well as protects the interests of the Congregation as it relates to all property, furnishings and equipment.
Members on the committee are Sylvia Braselmann (Chair), Ted Hyrons, Gabriel Proo, Randy Thueme, Kirsten Havrehed, and Ben Sheldon. Paul Johnson attends as an ex-officio member. Pastor Bea and Dave Walda (Senior Parish Administrator) are also ex-officio members.
The Property Committee has a unique challenge to keep the physical property of St. Francis maintained with the approved annual budgets authorized at the annual meetings. Repairs and maintenance projects are prioritized to help the committee make decisions.
The committee also obtains information and estimates from various trades people as part of the maintenance program. This may require one of them to meet a vendor at church during the week.
