The final major task for our congregation’s transition is “Mission” and we will begin to accomplish this during the season of Epiphany! The Transition Team and Call Committee met together on Dec. 19, 2012, to develop tools and methods that will be useful for both the transition work St. Francis is completing, as well as the information needed during the call process. Here is what we are excited to be planning:
Ministry Assessment – Discerning our congregation’s strengths and goals for ministry together. We will distribute a survey regarding congregational health (online on January 3; paper copies on Sunday, January 6). There will be small groups for additional discussion, with facilitated questions. Please attend one of these if possible:
Tuesday, January 8, 7:00 pm, facilitated by Sarah Wells at her home
Wednesday, January 9, 2:00 pm, facilitated by Gabriel Proo at St. Francis
Thursday, January 10, 7:00 pm, facilitated by Nancy Burns at her home
Sunday, January 13, 1:00 pm, facilitated by Adam Maass at St. Francis
Interviewing Key Community Members – Adam Maass and Gabriel Proo (Transition Team) and Grant Burger (Call Committee) will gather input during January 2013 from key neighbors regarding St. Francis and its ministries’ place in the community.
Prioritizing Goals – A joint session with Council, Call Committee and Transition Team will discern focus areas for goals for the congregation’s future, using the above information that has been gathered, as well as what we learned earlier during our history exploration. The Transition Team will use these goals with the entire congregation as the foundation for writing a new mission statement (more below). The Call Committee will use these goals in writing the Ministry Site Profile. We are hoping to have this workshop session in February 2013 and scheduling is in process.
Congregational Workshop – The congregation will meet after worship to review and endorse goals for St. Francis and to prepare to write the mission statement. Tentatively scheduled for Sunday, February 24, 1:00 pm, this date will be announced and publicized once it is confirmed. Please look forward to attending this important workshop!
Mission Statement – A process of writing, reviewing drafts, revising and finalizing our new mission statement is being developed. We will have more details on what this process may look like by next month. We are excited to be moving toward this final transition task!
